New Beginnings.

I've been wanting to start a blog for a number of years now, but every time I sat down to write my first blog post I felt that I didn't have anything worth writing about. I'd even gotten so close to the mark that I had created the blog, bought the domain name and made sure that it was pretty enough for public consumption!

After 18 months of Graceful Wanderings having been in existence, sitting alone without any posts, I've finally plucked up the courage to write.

Moving to Sydney in 8 days (!!!) with Callum has given me an excuse to give it a go. I'm excited to use this space as a place to update friends and family around the world on some of our adventures together in Australia and wherever else we may end up living in the future. Aside from updating friends and fam around the world, I wanted to start this blog as a way to document life, as this next chapter is definitely going to be an exciting one.

Leaving friends, family, jobs and our home of the past 7 years has definitely felt daunting at times. In the past few weeks though, I have felt a shift from what we are leaving into what we are going to. Such an exciting way to start our married life!

Having not lived there since I was 15, and Callum having only ever spent 10 days there, I am so excited to explore Sydney together as a couple in our mid-twenties. Returning home usually means visiting my favourite places before quickly returning to Edinburgh. Rarely have I explored beyond what the 15 year old version of myself knew there - having really only scratched the surface of what there is to see and do.

It is so rare to be given such an incredible opportunity to live in Australia for a period of time and having both of our jobs held for us back in Edinburgh. Not knowing what is planned for us is unbelievably exciting. It's scary too, but the excitement definitely outweighs the nerves. Whether we will end up staying in Sydney for four months as is tentatively booked, much longer, or even on to another place from there, its definitely a step out in faith that I am thrilled to be taking.

Having had such a busy time in Edinburgh over the past 10 weeks, from arriving back in the country just in time to finalise wedding details, to getting married, packing up our lives and possessions and then leaving in a weeks time, I really look forward to stepping into a much more laid back existence. Since getting married a month ago, we have had very little time just as a two due to the nature of our situation. Sydney will be such a gift, in the sense that we will be able to step into married life in such an unconventional way. We both won't be working (at least initially, and possibly won't be at all depending on how long we end up staying) so will have so much time to get to know each other as married people. We won't have the usual pressures of regular life, and will have the freedom to explore and dream. How often do newlyweds get to sit back, enjoy uninterrupted time together and dream for the future without restrictions and responsibilities?

So, on that note, I hope to be updating the blog regularly with such adventures, both big and small, with no particular agenda or plan.

Grace.
